Western Digital Hard Drive Review

Published by Editor under Computers and Technology

image The Western Digital My Book Essential 500GB USB 2.0 External hard drive is a good buy on many counts. For one, WD has always produced good hard disks from the old days. But, let’s look at some of the good things from this particular beauty. I am listing the good and the bad in no particular order and all these are of course subjective opinions:

Good

  • Very pretty to look at.
  • Good Price.
  • Plug and Play Installation.
  • Very quiet.
  • Rubberized Base to avoid vibration and movement during operation.
  • A very small physical space footprint

Bad

  • A little ticking sound under heavy loads.
  • Lack of Sync software (which bundles with the premium edition).
  • Annoying Auto running of packaged software Installation Menu.

All in all, it is still a good buy for your data backup and storage needs.

Corporate Performance Management

Prophix

Today we review a corporate performance management software. Of course, we have not used this software personally, but we will try and list all the features that this software has and how it can help you manage your corporate better.

Prophix is a software solution for budgeting, financial analysis, forecasting, financial reporting, personnel planning, consolidation, and other financial functions. It lets you rapidly gain control over your enterprise through quick implementation road maps.

The software has the following capabilities:

  • Reporting - the tool provides complete reporting, including financial reporting, management reporting, transactional reporting, and ad hoc reporting. It has support for industry standards and built-in security features.
  • Budgeting - supports top-down and bottom-up budgeting, audit tracking, scenario management, and zero-based budgeting. This combines with tools such as multiple budgeting, templates, charting, multiple currency, etc. makes it a compelling tool.
  • Personnel Planning - you can manage benefits, overtime calculations, commission-based calculations, personnel data, and scenario planning.
  • Forecasting - you can do break-even analysis, inventory forecasting, production forecasting, rolling forecasts, and sales forecasting. Once again, you can leverage advanced features such as automatic allocations and multi-user data entry.
  • Advanced Functions - A number of features such as job costing, allocations, currency management, and consolidation add to the offering.
  • Analysis - there are capabilities for scorecards and dashboards, variance reporting, analytics, ad hoc analysis, and converting analytics to action.
  • Business Modeling - centralized control, business rules, alternate scenarios and mass data manipulation are some of the features that the Business Model manager offers.
  • Business Process Management - has a GUI based designer to manage workflow and processes.
  • Financial Consolidation - it allows multiple roll-up requirements, real-time consolidation analysis, secure approval process, and consolidated management and financial reporting.
  • Data Integration - allows you to integrate with your sales data, CRM system, and historical data. It can connect to your ERP system as well. It allows you to connect to any ODBC compliant database, which pretty much means, you can connect to anything.
The above features are not even scratching the surface of this ull blown corporate application.

Do you have a migraine?

Published by Editor under Websites

image I get a lot of migraines from time to time. Sometimes they are so severe that my conscious brain stops functioning. So, it was nice to stumble upon this resource for the New York Headache Center for headache treatment. There are two things which are very useful on this site: they have a section called Educational Materials, and they have a blog.

Both list useful information about headaches and can come in very handy for people like me who suffer from them. Of course, if you are in New York, you may even want to visit the place, but I am not and so I have to make do with the online resources. And this is a nice resource.

Good Website Design

Published by Editor under Images and Design

I stumbled upon a website today and was struck by its crisp design. It’s a website that deals with Scottsdale real estate. Here’s what I find nice about this website:

  • It has a very blog like look. Its content area is separate from the various announcements, features, etc. (which are on the right sidebar).
  • A simple, un-intrusive top-menu lets you navigate the site.
  • A small, not too loud, flash animation plays pictures of their offerings. I found that I wasn’t distracted by the animation while I was looking at the site.
  • And they have the most common real estate actions right up there in the content section: Buying and Selling.
  • The color scheme is very nice and soothing to the eyes. The blues go well with the browns. Since both are sober colors, it causes the flash animation and other small pictures on the page to stand out nicely.

Overall, a nice crisp design for a website.
