10 Abr 07 Eyeris Open Intelligence, analysing huge data

If you have great ideas and a lot of data to analyse in order to complete them, tools like Access and Excel may be just not powerful enough to help you. To solve this, the people at Eyearis, have actually developed a nice solution for you :-).

Their product is called Eyeris Open Intelligence, and it is desktop data analysis software that requires no coding and turns a PC desktop in to a do-it-yourself business intelligence platform. This software allows anyone to analyze any kind of big data that more normal-user applications can not cope with. It allows non-coders to create integrated reporting information from operational data, turning actually your PC into a DIY Business Intelligence platform.

Some of the options included are scaling, to handle jobs of any size, provide an analyst-friendly graphical designer atop a powerful automated execution system, or help to manage metadata issues, like hierarchies and layouts. It also can cleanse/transform/integrate data, as reporting is pretty easy when raw, grainy operational data from multiple sources can be transformed into a single, tidy data set.

In fact, it simplifies your life when trying to complete huge data analysis for new projects or proposals and can be a good support for many companies and enterprises. Check their site for more info and let us know if you try it out.

09 Abr 07 Brainstorm Lite, new brainstorming software

Brainstorm Lite is an application that comes as a part of ConceptDraw Lab project. If you are used to have brainstorming sessions as part of your daily business tasks, this new software may change the way you brainstorm with tools - Brainstorm Lite is a very restrictive brainstorming application that forces users to follow some core brainstorming rules thus achieving better results from the session spending less time.

It works by tracking brainstorming time and prohibiting the user from entering new ideas after the time is up. This is used to inspire creativity because everyone knows how much time is left to generate new ideas and that there remains no extra time. The tool prevents also deleting or even editing any ideas while session is ongoing. This allows even the random ideas pass to analysis stage at which they often appear to be the best. Once the session is finished, the application transforms into simple text editor, meant for spellchecking or simple editing.

Another useful tool to make companies develop ideas, which at the end, can result in new or improved products and services.

08 Abr 07 Huddle, managing your team remotely

Among the several servicesavailable in the online market to do remote management, one more option comes to us providing a full range of features and collaboration tools for teams not sitting physically together on one single office.

The application is named Huddle, a network of secure online spaces, document and project tools in a social working environment. You can share documents, jot new ideas, plan new projects, create tasks and assign them to your team members, meet them online, etc.

Although it is not completely free ( and there are a few applications that are pretty similar and do not cost anything), they present themselves as a strong product for everyone that needs to work while being in different locations and keep in touch with colleagues doing also the same. Another good option without doubt that you can try freely for some time before deciding to purchase the paid version.

06 Abr 07 Aruba.it, bad service for a hosting provider

Whenever we do a product review we try to see the good points the service has, but this time I am afraid this it will not be the case. I am getting crazy with the service one of my hosting providers is given me. The company is Aruba.it, I initially selected it a couple of years ago because it was one of the first providers to introduce DNN support and pre-configured DNN portals to their hosting plans, but what drives me crazy is their really bad customer service.

Every ticket I enter comes back with just one or two lines answer that never solve my problems, so I have to open a new ticket asking again. The last one was about my lost password to access to my SQL control panel, there is no feature implemente to retrieve it so I created the ticket. Their response was: “your SQL pannel is correctly activated”. Gosh! I knew that already!

Anyhow, although the rest of the service is more or less ok, and prices are not very expensive, they lack plenty of new functionalities ( like wordpress support, for instance) that many hosting services already have available. I am moving soon out of Aruba, so if you are planning to look for a good hosting, just search a bit more and make sure you have a good CS before purchasing anything.

05 Abr 07 dhtmlxGrid, new JavaScript Grid Control

I have recently discovered that Scand , a Belarus based company, launched a couple of months ago the version 1.2 of its JavaScript grid control dhtmlxGrid aiming to create feature rich DHTML Tables with Real-Time Performance. Enriched by new powerful features, this version allows easy creation of dynamical tables with draggable columns, multiline headers/footers, per-cell formatting, etc.

The software is AJAX-powered and in the new version it introduces a number of features which extend existing user experience capabilities and provides developers with more control over the grid which is something developers were demanding.

Version 1.2 allows easy reordering of grid columns either through an API script or using drag-n-drop functionality. Besides that, now columns can be inserted/removed with JavaScript on the fly. Also, there is the ability to place complex HTML objects (controls) inside header/footer cells (e.g for filtering functionality or sum total).

dhtmlxGrid 1.2 is available in two editions: Standard and Professional. If you want to try it for free, the Standard edition is licensed under GNU General Public License (GPL) and can be downloaded from dhtmlxGrid Homepage . Enjoy!

Many websites and blogs are blocked for the Chinese people so it is not possible to access them, reasons about it can fill 20 posts like this one so I will not talk about it, instead what I will show you is a tool that can let you know if your URL is blocked in China or not.

We are talking about The Great FireWall of China, an online application where you can enter your url and see its status…. for reasons I can not understand, this blog appears as Blocked! Is it the name, is it the content, is it my photo…? :-).
